Tips to Get Your Preschooler Moving

by Belinda J Mooney

Here are some ways you can keep your preschool child active. Enjoy exercising with your kids and you both will be healthier for it. There are lots of ways you can exercise and move around with your preschooler. These are just a few ideas.

• Spend a half hour each morning playing together. Do action songs, jumping jacks, play follow the leader – whatever gets them going.

• Sign up for the local YMCA – they often have classes just for tots & mom or dad. Swimming, playtime and more.

• Go for walks regularly. If you can’t walk where you live, walk the mall.

• Get together weekly with a few other families who have preschoolers for gym time.

• Turn off the TV. Toddlers and preschoolers should watch very little TV.

• Spend time outdoors each day. Even in the winter it is good to get kids outside daily. Go sled riding, walk through some mud puddles or play in the park. Just enjoy the outdoors.

• Chase him around the living room. Wrestle on the floor, play hide and seek or pretend to be different animals and walk like they do.

What is your favorite way to get your preschooler moving? Submit your idea and I will post it here.
